FUNCTIONS OF TURKISH EDUCATIONAL OFFICE

TO THE TURKISH CONSULATE GENERAL IN NEW YORK


The Office is responsible for all Turkish Government sponsored students who are sent to the United States of America /Canada in order to pursue a course of study at an institution leading to Intensive Language Program, Master and PhD degree in their related fields.

According to the laws and regulations related to the Turkish students' education in foreign countries, the Educational Attaché's Office to the Turkish Consulate General is responsible for the payment of the above mentioned student's:

  • Tuition and fees: (Tuition and fees, except late and transportation fees, will be paid twice a year. First payment will be in June, second payment will be in December. Please make sure that all bills should be sent to mailing address.)

  • Compulsory charges for curriculum related activities, (such as field trips, application, and laboratory, graduation and thesis expenses).

  • Health and accident insurance premiums, and medical and dental expenses not covered by the student's university insurance program.

REQUIRED CONDITIONS

  • Tuition and fees

  • The student shall be provided a J-1 visa.

  • The student shall be enrolled full-time in a program leading to the degree and program of study indicated above.

  • An official student transcript shall be provided to this office each semester. The student has authorized this prior to his/her leaving Turkey.

  • Should the student's program fall below the full-time standard, this office is to be notified promptly.

  • An invoice showing the number of credits for which the student has enrolled shall be sent to this office. An original and three copies are to be provided. The original must be signed by an authorized official and bear the seal of the institution.

  • Health and medical coverage

  • Treatment shall be provided at:

  • 1.1. A hospital operated by a municipal, state or federal branch of

    government,

  • 1.2. A medical non-profit institution,

  • 1.3. A college or university clinic or teaching hospital.

  • Trauma emergency treatments administrated by a private physician within the first

    twenty four hours of the onset of the illness or injury will be covered by this

    guarantee of payment. Thereafter, treatment shall be as 1.1., 1.2., or 1.3 above.

  • Dental expenses

  • Treatment shall be as 1.1., 1.2, 1.3 above.

  • Prior approval of this office for any service must be obtained through submission

    of a listing of the proposed treatments and the charges for each item of service.

  • In all cases, only basic non precious material is used for fillings, dentures, capping,

    etc.

  • Monthly allowance

Students receive a monthly allowance of ($ 1,235.00) for personal expenses, including room and board, and an additional allowance for books and stationery of ($ 1,235.00) per year, except students get any financial support from their University such as Teaching or Research Assistantship.

  • Duration of support

The support is valid for 1 year for intensive language program, 2 years for masters, and 3 years for PhD according to the degree stated in the first paragraph.

Periods cover the time spent at another school for the same degree in case of transfers. Should the student exceed the periods mentioned, the approval of this office must be obtained.
